The Brief
The Royal Mint partnered with Beano Studios to launch a commemorative 50p coin celebrating 75 years of Dennis the Menace.
The brief was to capture high-quality, editorial-ready imagery of the newly released coin alongside Mike Stirling, Director of Mischief at Beano. The photography needed to showcase the detail of the coin while incorporating personality and brand alignment, ensuring strong visual appeal for national media coverage.

Challenge & Solution
Working with newly minted commemorative coins requires strict adherence to The Royal Mint’s handling guidelines. The coins must be carefully protected to avoid fingerprints, scratches or any accidental damage that could compromise their finish.
To manage this, the photographer was thoroughly briefed on handling requirements, including holding the coin only by its edges. We also made sure close attention was paid to lighting and positioning to capture the intricate detail of the design without compromising the coin’s condition. Our established working relationship with The Royal Mint meant we were fully aligned on expectations and processes.
