Northern Growth Needs Northern Stories – Are You Ready?
Written by Craig Gunn,Managing Director, Assignments
I’ve been thinking a lot about the way attention is starting to shift northwards, and what that could mean for the businesses, councils and organisations already doing important work across the region.
With Andy Burnham talking about aNo.10 North” and a major shift in devolved powers, the conversation around investment, regeneration and regional growth is no longer just a Westminster story. However it plays out, local authorities, combined authorities and businesses across the North are clearly preparing for more visibility, investment and opportunity.
Across LinkedIn, councils, economic development teams and regional businesses are looking for photographers, videographers and visual content creators. Not just someone with a camera, but people who can capture change in a way that feels credible, useful and true to the place.
The North Will Need More Than Press Releases
Press releases have their place, of course, and effectivepress release distributioncan still be an important part of getting a story out. But every regeneration programme, business investment or public announcement also needs strong visuals.
Local government will need imagery that documents infrastructure projects, community engagement and official visits.
Developers will need progress photography that shows investment taking shape.
Businesses moving into new premises will want fresh marketing assets.
Manufacturers and industrial firms will need updated photography of their facilities, people and innovation.
Corporate teams will need leadership portraits that are ready for media enquiries, stakeholder updates and recruitment campaigns.
And when national attention arrives, the last thing anyone wants is to be searching for a photographer at the last minute.

National Coverage. Local Knowledge.
AtAssignments, we’ve spent decades helping organisations communicate visually when it matters. For me, the difference is not just that we have photographers across the UK. It’s that we can bring in experienced professionals who already understand the areas they are working in.
From Newcastle to Manchester, Leeds to Liverpool, Sheffield to Hull, our photographers and videographers are already based throughout the North, ready to respond whether an assignment is planned weeks ahead or comes in that morning. That local presence means quicker response times, lower travel costs and people who know the locations, communities and stories behind them.

Supporting Businesses of Every Size
Government announcements often dominate the headlines, but I think many of the biggest opportunities will come through the businesses supporting regional growth on the ground.Professional imagery is often one of the first things organisations need when they reach a new stage.
Perhaps you’ve recruited fifty new employees, opened a second manufacturing site, started bidding for public sector work, moved into new markets, or simply need to replace those headshots from five years ago. Fresh photography helps businesses show up with confidence across websites, annual reports, social media, recruitment campaigns and press coverage.
When opportunities come knocking, it helps to have the right visual assets already in place.

Flexible Support, Wherever You Need It
Some organisations need a single corporate headshot session.
Others require regular photography across multiple locations.
Many need both photography and video to work together, so they can build a consistent content library throughout the year. Because our photographer roster spans the UK, we can support one-off commissions, ongoing projects or coverage across several locations while keeping quality and consistency high.
For communications teams looking after several offices or sites, this can make life much easier.
